A man and woman have been taken to hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Main Street South in Alexandria Friday evening while crossing the road.
Ontario Provincial Police report the collision occurred at about 6 p.m., Friday, December 11.
Police closed traffic on a portion of Main Street South between Anik Street and Gauthier Street while completing their investigation and collecting evidence, and spoke to one eyewitness at the scene.
“They were transported by ambulance to the Glengarry Memorial Hospital,” said Const. Serge Duguay of the victims. “They are being assessed.”
A family member later confirmed the male victim has since been taken to Ottawa hospital for further tests.
At the time of the accident, a car with a male driver heading southbound collided with the two pedestrians crossing the road heading westbound.
The police officer confirmed the victims were not crossing the road at a designated intersection.
Weather conditions may have been a factor although police are still determining the cause of the collision.
Police continue to investigate.
