An arrest has been made as the result of an historical sexual assault investigation conducted by members of the Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP, assisted by the SD&G OPP Crime Unit.
Gilles Deslauriers, 79, of Vercheres, Quebec was arrested March 12.
He faces two counts of indecent assault on a male.
These charges are in relation to alleged incidents involving a young male victim, dating back to 1976.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Alexandria April 3.
Municipal taxes North Glengarry will be frozen after council approved the 2019 budget Monday.
The township will collect $5,831,033 for municipal purposes.
For every tax dollar that property owners pay, 38% is paid to the municipality, 43% goes to the County and 19% is transferred to school board taxes. The tax rate by-law will be presented to Council once both the County and school board rates have been confirmed.
Three truck drivers were injured early Tuesday morning when three tractor-trailers collided on Highway 401 in South Glengarry.
One trucker suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries while two others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash occurred between mile marker 825 and mile marker 814.
The preliminary investigation has indicated that at 12:21 a.m., a tractor-trailer was travelling westbound on Highway 401 when, for reasons under investigation, was struck from behind by another westbound tractor-trailer. A third tractor-trailer struck the rear of the second tractor-trailer.
The Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police detachment continues to investigate with the assistance of OPP Traffic Collision Investigators.
